ABOUT SOCIETY

Raghupriya Arts and Culture Society is a not-for-profit society incorporated in British Columbia. The Society is also known through its public-facing platform and festival brand name, Diwali in B.C.

The Society has been in operation since 2017 and was created to support public participation in the arts through festivals, performances, events, exhibitions, workshops, and cultural programming.

The purposes of our Society are:

 

To encourage  and advance public participation and appreciation of the arts by:

  • Creating, developing, producing and presenting annual arts festival/s and a year-round season of artistic programming that provide artistic performances, events, and exhibitions of diverse cultural and artistic perspectives

  • Providing arts-related instructional and educational workshops, trainings, seminars, discussion groups, reading series and events to the public.

 

Raghupriya Arts and Culture Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

ABOUT DIWALI IN B.C.

Diwali in B.C. is honoured to have its home on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish people of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and Səl̓ílwətaɬ Nations.

Produced by Raghupriya Arts and Culture Society, Diwali in B.C. was founded by Rohit Chokhani and launched in 2017. Since then, it has created space for Global Majority, South Asian, diasporic, intercultural, and multidisciplinary arts programming in British Columbia.

 

Rooted in the spirit of Diwali — light, renewal, connection, and possibility — Diwali in B.C. has brought together artists and communities through theatre, music, dance, storytelling, workshops, conversations, and public celebrations across multiple cities in British Columbia.

 

Diwali in B.C. is artistically mandated, non-denominational, and non-religious. It welcomes people of all backgrounds to participate in and celebrate the diverse cultural communities that shape British Columbia and Canada.
